Mit Hilfe verschiedener Akzeptabilitätsthesen versucht er Unterschiede in der Akzeptanz von Sicherungssystemen aus soziologischer Perspektive zu begründen, stößt dabei jedoch an Grenzen, die im Rahmen der Arbeit aufgezeigt werden.
Im nächsten Schritt werden sozioökonomische Erklärungsansätze hergeleitet, wobei zunächst die zentralen Eigenschaften des sozialen Sicherungssystems in Deutschland beschrieben werden. Im Anschluss erfolgt die Darstellung eines neuen Verhältnisses von Sozialstaat und Markt und wie dieses die Moralvorstellungen und die Akzeptanz der Adressaten sozialer Sicherungssysteme beeinflusst. Danach soll eine Übersicht ausgewählter mikroökonomischer Theorien Erklärungsansätze zum menschlichen Verhalten in einer Solidargemeinschaft wie dem Sozialstaat liefern und anhand eines aktuellen Beispiels konkretisiert werden. In einer abschließenden Betrachtung werden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse schließlich zusammengefasst und vor dem Hintergrund eines nach größtmöglicher Akzeptanz strebenden Wohlfahrtsstaates interpretiert.
