In den modernen Sozialwissenschaften ist die Thematik immer noch aktuell. Die Frage danach, welche Faktoren Kooperation zwischen Akteuren eines Netzwerkes bedingen und wie sie dies tun, ist somit auch eine der Grundfragen für das Konzept des Sozialkapitals. Der Begriff Sozialkapital ist ein Sonderphänomen der Sozialwissenschaften, da er durch steigende Popularität und vermehrte Versuche, eine Definition dafür festzulegen, immer mehrdeutiger wurde. Er fand plötzlich andere Bedeutung in anderen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen. Diese Arbeit soll die bedeutendsten Definitionsversuche und Vorrausetzungen von Sozialkapital erläutern, sowie einige Messmethoden erklären und vergleichen.
